Job Summary
The Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) Community Health Division is looking for a communications coordinator to serve the communications needs of the Center for Public Health Practice and its state, local, and community partners. In this role, you will provide expert technical advice regarding internal and external communications and messaging strategies, practices, and laws. You will also coordinate and implement communications activities in the Center for Public Health Practice. You will utilize your communications expertise by integrating health equity, plain language, cross-cultural communication, and digital accessibility into planning and implementation. You will strategically plan and execute outgoing communications from the Center for Public Health Practice to related partners such as local public health leadership, elected officials, community partners, and the public.
Candidates residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota may have the option to telework; however, telework schedules are based on the unit's operational needs and are at supervisory discretion.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Three years professional experience in performing the following duties:
- Communications and messaging strategy and planning efforts
A bachelor's or master's degree may substitute for one (1) year or eighteen (18) months of professional experience, respectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the governance of Minnesota’s state-local public health system and partnership.
- Knowledge of cultural communication strategies for Minnesota’s diverse communities.
- Experience with tools such as GovDelivery, SharePoint, REDCap, Basecamp, social media, Microsoft Teams, and other communications tools.
- Knowledge and experience relating to core principles of effective communication, including but not limited to the areas of written communication, visual communication, social media, and web.
- Knowledge of techniques and best practices in storytelling, campaign development, and/or evaluating communications initiatives.
- Knowledge and experience in communications planning, including surveillance of the communications environment, development of goals and objectives, message development, definition of target audiences, selection of appropriate strategies, feedback mechanisms, and evaluation.
- Knowledge and direct experience relating to the development and implementation of projects, timelines, and oversight of people contributing to a project or activity.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health professionals in a variety of disciplines, as well as state and local officials, community groups, and other health-related constituencies at the state and local levels.
